Archive Description

Founded in 1863, the Danish Deaconess Foundation (Den Danske Diakonissestiftelse) in Copenhagen became one of Denmark’s most respected religious and medical institutions. The foundation operated hospitals, nursing education programs, and charitable services, and its main complex in Frederiksberg remains an architectural landmark.

Royal Copenhagen produced commemorative porcelain pieces for institutions like this throughout the 20th century. These objects were often presented to visitors, staff members, or benefactors as refined mementos representing Danish craftsmanship and civic heritage.

This plate belongs to that tradition.

At its center appears a finely rendered architectural scene depicting the historic foundation buildings framed by mature trees and landscaped grounds. The image is executed in monochrome transfer print, a technique widely used by Royal Copenhagen for architectural commemoratives.

Encircling the scene is a hand-applied gold rim, creating a subtle visual frame around the architecture while reinforcing the plate’s ceremonial origin.
